Larne Football Club has made history with Kate Smith signing her first professional contract, becoming the club’s first female professional player. This groundbreaking development marks a significant chapter in the club’s history at Inver Park.

Smith, 16, who transferred to Larne FC from Banbridge Town Ladies in October 2022, has quickly established herself as a key player. Her talent has not gone unnoticed, with her already representing Northern Ireland at the U15 and U17 levels.

Speaking about her professional contract, Smith expressed her joy and appreciation for the club’s support. “I’m very happy [to have signed a professional contract]. The team at Larne FC has been incredibly supportive since I joined, which has been crucial in reaching this point in my career,” she said.

She also highlighted the role of the club’s facilities in her development. “The facilities at Inver Park are excellent, especially the gym and our training approach. These have been vital for my growth as a player,” Smith added.

Smith’s contribution was pivotal in Larne FC Women’s record 7th place finish in the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership last season. She shared her enthusiasm for challenges and her team’s success. “Playing in the Premiership was a step up, but I love challenges. It was a successful season for us, and I’m excited to see how far we can go,” Smith remarked.

Looking forward, Smith is focused on her continued improvement and supporting Larne FC in the Premiership. “My goal is to keep getting better and help the team compete at the highest level. I want to be a reliable part of the backline and a teammate others can count on,” she concluded.

This contract not only highlights Smith’s promising career but also signifies Larne FC’s dedication to promoting women’s football at Inver Park.
