Larne Town Hit by Double Blow of Recent Retail Closures

by | Jan 5, 2024

Larne town centre is experiencing a retail change with the closure of two major stores. The longstanding O2 outlet in Laharna Retail Park and the Clarkes Shoes store on Main Street.

The O2 outlet in Laharna Retail Park has closed its doors. Having been a part of the town for over 15 years, the store ceased operations just before Christmas. It now stands empty and is listed on the rental market for new occupants.

Additionally, this week, the Clarkes store on Main Street announced its closure, with its final day of business being Saturday, 13th January. This closure also affects Carrick’s Clarkes Store located in the Market Place area of the town.

A staff member posted on social media about the closure, saying: “It’s with a heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to all our loyal customers over the years – babies, children, adults, everyone in the community. Sadly, we have to close our doors for the last time on Saturday, 13th January. Thank you from all staff – Fiona, Jill, Gemma, Lynne, Averil, and all the Kelly family.”

These closures represent a broader trend affecting the local retail landscape, indicative of shifting consumer habits and the economic challenges facing high-street retailers.
