Mid and East Antrim ‘Getting Real’ on recycling

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is getting behind this year’s national Recycle Week 2022 campaign (17-23 October) by thanking residents for their excellent recycling habits and reminding everyone across the Borough to recycle the right things.

Recycle Week is the UK’s annual event to build awareness of and encourage increased participation in recycling behaviour. The theme of this year’s campaign is ‘Let’s Get Real’ and will challenge perceptions and myths around recycling, and target contamination to improve recycling behaviours.

Wrong items in the bin can make whole lorry loads un-recyclable but worry not – Recycle Now and Mid and East Antrim Borough Council are here to help! Mid and East Antrim is a Borough of recyclers – and there are some simple things that we can all do to make our recycling even better.

Top tips for recycling in Mid and East Antrim:

  • Recycle more of these items: bathroom plastics and aerosols, tin foil and plastic pots, tub and trays.
  • Make sure these never go in the recycling bin: plastic film, nappies and drinking glasses.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Noel Williams said:

“We’re delighted to be participating in Recycle Week again. This campaign gets right back to basics, which I feel our residents will appreciate at this moment in time. It has been designed to remind everyone about the basic requirements expected through our kerbside recycling service, and I’m hopeful that Recycle Week will help to engender greater confidence in our residents, when it comes to recycling choices.”

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council will be supporting Recycle Week by delivering an online recycling campaign – go and check out our top tips and remember to share your recycling pictures on social media using #RecycleWeek!

Recycling is one activity that we can all do to help the planet – even small changes such as recycling aerosols and bathroom plastics can make a difference. To find out more about Recycle Week visit www.recyclenow.org.uk/RecycleWeek
